We will be hosting an Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority (AMTRA) exam training session with Sally Harmer Animal Health Consultancy in November 2018.
The training course will take place from Thursday 8th November to Sunday 11th November, at our headquarters in Wesham, Preston.
In the UK, individuals have to pass an exam to prescribe and supply certain categories of animal medicines. The AMTRA training sessions are to assist individuals who want to become a Suitably Qualified Person (SQP) in the field of Veterinary Medicine.
There are different SQP qualifications to determine which animal medicines an individual can prescribe and/or supply, including products for farm animals, horses and pets.
Sally Harmer, of Sally Harmer Animal Health Consultancy Ltd who will be running the course at Trilanco, said:
“To become an SQP, people have to pass several exams covering the different areas of prescribing to demonstrate animal health knowledge and understanding of the legal system. The exams are not easy, and support needs to be in place to help the students.
“Good SQPs typically sell more as they tend to interact better with customers. A lot of veterinary staff are SQPs because it gives them knowledge and confidence when dealing with clients.
“I run small group training sessions to encourage students to interact and support each other’s learning, and so that I can deliver a high level of teaching. This approach has delivered great student results and very positive feedback. It also means students can train more locally which has both a cost and time benefit.”
Martin Balmer, Managing Director at Trilanco, said:
“AMTRA SQP qualifications are a very useful staff development tool. Trilanco’s sales team are encouraged to become SQPs because it enables them to better support customers as they have greater knowledge and can advise on a wider range of products.
“Trilanco is making its boardroom available as a venue for AMTRA training, to both support our team’s development and to support businesses and students in the local area, looking to gain the SQP qualification.”
Sally is a qualified R-SQP and has worked in the Animal Health industry for nearly 25 years in different roles both on the manufacturer and retail side of the animal health business achieving significant success.
Sally now works as an animal health industry consultant and trainer working with manufacturers, vets and retailers supporting product marketing, industry projects and AMTRA training. Sally also does some locum SQP cover for local retailers and is still involved with animal health product treatment planning on a number of farms.
In addition, Sally writes articles on a regular basis promoting good practice both for livestock keepers and other SQPs. Sally comes from a farming background and still helps on the family beef and sheep farm near Llanybydder when time allows.
